Harlan J. Shiau, DDS, DMedSc, is clinical associate professor and postgraduate
periodontics program director at the University of Maryland. He completed his
DDS from the University of Buffalo and certificate in periodontics at Harvard
University, School of Dental Medicine (HSDM). Dr. Shiau also earned his
Doctorate in Oral Biology at HSDM and The Forsyth Institute, where he was the
NIH/NIDCR Dentist Scientist Award Scholar. Dr. Shiau is a recipient of the
American Academy of Periodontology Foundation’s Nevins Teaching and Clinical
Research Fellowship. He currently serves in leadership positions for the
American Dental Education Association and American Board of Periodontology.
Dr. Shiau’s research and clinical interests include periodontal medicine/risk
assessment and implant site-development. Dr. Shiau is a Diplomate of the
American Board of Periodontology, and Fellow of the International College of
Dentists.
